Profhilo

Profhilo is an injectable anti-aging treatment that consists of a highly concentrated form of hyaluronic acid (HA). Unlike traditional dermal fillers, Profhilo is not designed to add volume or fill specific areas but rather to improve overall skin hydration, elasticity, and texture. It acts as a bio-remodeling treatment by stimulating the production of collagen and elastin in the skin.

Key benefits of Profhilo include

Hydration: Due to its high hyaluronic acid content, it deeply hydrates the skin, giving it a plumper, smoother appearance.

Tightening: It helps improve skin laxity, leading to firmer, tighter skin.

Collagen and Elastin Stimulation: Profhilo promotes the production of these essential proteins, which contribute to youthful, resilient skin.

Natural-Looking Results: It spreads evenly under the skin, creating subtle but significant improvements without altering facial features.

Profhilo is usually injected into five key points on each side of the face (called the Bio Aesthetic Points technique).

It is typically administered over two sessions, spaced about four weeks apart.

Difference b/w profhilo & Dermal Fillers

How Profhilo Differs from Traditional Dermal Fillers

While both Profhilo and traditional dermal fillers are injectable treatments using hyaluronic acid (HA), they work in very different ways due to their structure and purpose.

Purpose:

Profhilo: Designed to improve overall skin quality by hydrating, tightening, and stimulating collagen and elastin production. It remodels the skin without adding volume or changing facial contours. Its effects are subtle but spread across the entire treated area, focusing on bio-remodeling rather than localized filling.

Dermal Fillers: Primarily used to add volume, contour, or lift specific areas of the face (e.g., lips, cheeks, or nasolabial folds). Fillers can also be used to smooth deeper wrinkles or add definition to facial features.

Mechanism of Action:

Profhilo: Acts as a biostimulant, encouraging the skin’s own regenerative processes. It spreads evenly beneath the skin, delivering HA that helps increase hydration and promotes the production of collagen and elastin. This improves overall skin firmness and elasticity over time.

Dermal Fillers: These products are typically used to replace lost volume or enhance specific areas by physically filling the space under the skin. They do not spread as easily as Profhilo and are usually injected into specific areas that need volume or contour enhancement.

Hyaluronic Acid Structure:

Profhilo: Uses a hybrid of high- and low-molecular-weight HA. This structure allows Profhilo to deliver both immediate hydration (due to the low-molecular-weight HA) and long-term skin tightening (from the high-molecular-weight HA). Profhilo does not contain chemical cross-linking agents (like BDDE), so it is much more fluid and spreads evenly under the skin.

Dermal Fillers: Most fillers use chemically cross-linked HA to create a more stable, gel-like structure. This thicker consistency allows fillers to stay in place after injection, making them ideal for shaping or volumizing specific areas. The cross-linking agents stabilize the HA to ensure longevity but can result in a stiffer product.

Results:

Profhilo: Results are more subtle, focusing on enhancing skin texture, elasticity, and hydration. The improvements are noticeable over time, with peak effects seen around 4-8 weeks after treatment. Skin looks more luminous, firmer, and smoother but in a natural way that does not alter facial features.

Dermal Fillers: Results are immediate and can be dramatic, particularly when used for volumizing or shaping facial features. Fillers provide an instant boost in volume and can visibly reduce deeper wrinkles and folds.

Longevity:

Profhilo: Typically lasts 6-9 months, depending on the individual’s skin type and metabolism. It requires maintenance treatments every 6-12 months to sustain the effects.

Dermal Fillers: Depending on the type of filler and the area treated, results can last from 6 months to 2 years. However, because fillers focus on volume rather than skin quality, they do not have the same long-term biostimulatory effects as Profhilo.

Downtime:

Profhilo: Minimal downtime is involved. Since it’s injected into just five key points on each side of the face, bruising and swelling are minimal compared to fillers. Any side effects usually resolve within 24-48 hours.

Dermal Fillers: There may be some bruising, swelling, or tenderness at the injection sites. The downtime varies depending on the filler’s placement and the amount injected, but typically resolves within a few days.

Aftercare

  • Avoid touching the skin to avoid infection
  • Use a broad spectrum sunscreen daily -SPF50+
  • Don’t use ‘active’ skin care products (retinols, AHAs, acids) for few days
  • Avoid make up for 24-48 hours
  • Avoid strenuous exercise
  • Avoid Ibuprofen, Aspirin and alcohol 24 hours before and after to avoid bruising
