Why Ethical Aesthetics Matters to Me — My Ethos

I’ve worked as an NHS doctor for 18 years and as a GP for over 8 of those. Ethics and evidence-based medicine have always been the foundation of how I practice—and that hasn’t changed since entering the world of aesthetics.

How It All Started

My interest in aesthetics began in my late 30s. I started noticing subtle changes—wrinkles on my forehead, lines that made me look stressed or tired, and signs of aging around my face and neck. Colleagues would say, “You look tired,” and my husband often joked that I was always frowning at him. While amusing in hindsight, at the time, it impacted my confidence and even my mental well-being.

The idea of getting Botox or fillers was daunting. But I also wanted to look as vibrant on the outside as I felt inside. So, I began researching, reading, and speaking to other medical professionals—including GPs and trainers—about aesthetic treatments.

Interestingly, many of the reactions were dismissive or discouraging. There’s still stigma around aesthetic procedures in the medical world. But I knew that this journey had to be for me—not for others’ approval, but for my own confidence and sense of self. I also knew that if I were to pursue this field, I needed to understand it inside out and do it the right way.

Discovering Ethical Aesthetics

After months of research, I came across the concept of “Ethical Aesthetics”—a philosophy that immediately resonated with me. It means practising aesthetic medicine with integrity, prioritising the patient’s wellbeing, and maintaining transparency and professionalism over profit or trends.

I attended multiple training sessions, both online and in person, and connected with academies that emphasised these principles.

A Word on Non-Surgical Treatments

Most treatments I offer—like Botox and dermal fillers—are non-surgical and reversible. Botox typically lasts 3–4 months, and fillers dissolve over 12–18 months or can be removed sooner if needed. This offers peace of mind for patients who are exploring treatments for the first time.

Skin Rejuvenating Treatments-
Majority of my patients like natural skin treatments.
I offer injectable treatments like Profhilo( Hyaluronic acid ), Sunekos( Hyaluronic acid& 6 amino acids), Polynucleotides . They a
boost skins natural collagen and elastin by improving ECM around fibroblasts in dermis, which provide support, structure, and elasticity to the skin.

PRP( platelet rich plasma ) is another bio stimulant treatment option that uses patients own plasma after centrifuge to improve skin quality and hair thickness. Platelet rich plasma has multiple growth factors that help skin and hair follicles.

All these injectable bio stimulants can help reduce fine lines, wrinkles, and acne scars by stimulating collagen and elastin production, improving skin texture and tone. It can also reduce hyperpigmentation and increase skin hydration.

Hair Restoration: PRP therapy, polynucleotides and exosomes with microneedling can promote hair growth and thickness, making these valuable treatments for hair loss in men and women. It can also be used to enhance hair transplant outcomes.

The Core Principles I Stand By

These values continue to guide my aesthetic practice today:

  1. PatientWelfare First

My patients safety and wellbeing always come before any commercial gain. I only recommend treatments that are genuinely beneficial for you—not just the latest trend.

  2. Informed Consent

I ensure that every patient fully understands what a treatment involves—its risks, benefits, alternatives, and expected results.

  3. Transparency & Honesty

No exaggerated promises or misleading photos. Just open, honest conversations about what’s achievable.

  4. Safe, Evidence-Based Treatments

I use only tried, tested, and medically approved products and techniques, rooted in scientific evidence.

  5. Respecting Natural Beauty

Aesthetics is not about changing who you are—it’s about enhancing your natural features. I avoid the “overdone” look and instead focus on subtle, balanced results.

  6. Mental Health Awareness

If I believe a treatment may not help my patients mentally or emotionally—or if I suspect conditions like body dysmorphia—them with a referral, not a procedure.

From GP to Advanced Aesthetic Doctor

After completing my formal aesthetic training, I began working as an independent advanced aesthetic doctor. It brings me so much joy to help someone address a small irregularity or restore confidence they’ve lost over time. Often, these treatments aren’t about vanity—they’re about reclaiming identity and self-esteem.

I feel incredibly proud and privileged to guide patients through this journey in a safe, ethical, and informed way.

The Changing Landscape of Aesthetic Medicine

Aesthetics is still largely unregulated in the UK, which can be dangerous. Thankfully, recent changes are beginning to bring more structure to the industry.

For instance, the NMC has now banned remote prescribing of aesthetic medications, and most insurance companies no longer cover prescribers issuing medication for non-healthcare professionals. These changes help improve safety and reduce the overfilled, unnatural results often seen on social media.

Final Thoughts

I believe that I am just helping my patients trying to restore what nature created but gets dull with age like skin quality, change of facial structure and hair thickness. The treatments I offer are non surgical and temporary.

I truly believe in the power of ethical aesthetics to uplift, empower, and heal. I don’t follow trends—I follow what’s right for each patient. I strive for natural refreshing results and have turned away patients asking for treatments that I didn’t believe were ethical as they will make them overfilled.
